1. WHAT IS THE KINGDOM OF GOD?
Simplest definition: ‘God with us’
Starting at the beginning:
-
‘God’s people, in God’s place, under God’s blessing.’
-
Heaven (God’s space) & Earth (our space)
-
2 Kingdoms: God’s Kingdom & Human kingdom
Jesus comes to:
-
Make us God’s people (1 Peter 2:9)
-
Transfer us to God’s place (Colossians 1:13)
-
Give us God’s blessing (Ephesians 1:3)
-
Destroy the grip of the human kingdom (John 12:31)
-
Unite heaven & earth (Ephesians 1:9-10)
-
Be the place of meeting with God (Hebrews 4:14-16)
2. WHY DOES JESUS TEACH US TO ASK FOR IT TO COME?
-
Because it is God’s plan to rescue a people for His own possession (1 Peter 2:9)
-
Because this plan was formed before the foundation of the world (Eph 1:4)
-
Because God’s kingdom is to be sought first (Matt 6:33)
-
Because when God’s kingdom comes, His Name is Hallowed
3. WHAT WILL THIS INVOLVE?
-
Living as Jesus’s people – in His image, under His rule, in relationship with Him.
-
Is He King? Over everything? Am I like Him? How much?
-
Building Jesus’s Kingdom – being His agents, making His disciples, caring for the poor, needy & outcasts, working on His behalf.
-
Am I? Or am I waiting for Jesus to do it without me?
-
Enjoying His blessing – Hallowing His Name, enjoying Him forever
