By siteadmin in Bible Book,Luke,Mike Wildsmith,New Testament,PM Service,Sermons
Martha – “busy, busy, busy all the time, time, time.”
Mary – “busy, busy, busy, BUT NOT all the time, time, time.”
Martha is DISTRACTED
Mary is DEVOTED
1. How does busyness distract us?:
-
We DOUBT or UNDERMINE God’s goodness, grace and glory
-
We FOCUS on self or others and become PROUD
-
Our JOY is RUINED; our HEARTS are ROBBED; our SOULS begin to ROT
2. Some Honest Reflection:
-
Am I busy – so people like me? feel sorry for me? praise or promote me? so I can get those possessions? to gain power, position or prestige?
-
because I’m a poor planner or a perfectionist? to prove myself – to myself(!) or others?
-
Am I busy – and PROUD of it?
3. Some Hope From the Gospel
For those busy because of:
-
Others peoples’ expectations – fear the Lord
-
Things not getting done – trust the rule of God
-
Preferring the pressure – seek the refuge of God
-
Needing the money – find joy in the Lord
-
Wanting the most from life – live in the hope of God
4. Some Lessons from Mary:
-
There’s a time to REST
-
There’s a RHYTHM to life
-
We’re not called to do EVERYTHING
-
We are called to make ONE THING the MAIN THING
-
True REST is DEVOTION and WORSHIP
5. Busy and Distracted by many things?
-
Come and sit at the feet of Jesus:
-
Find REST for your mind in His WORD
-
Find REST for you soul in His BLOOD
-
Find REST for your heart in His CARE
